Ruth’s List Florida gathering honors election wins, looks toward 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Orlando summit aims to inspire women candidates, voters to “be the change”

TAMPA, FL (February 4, 2019) – To celebrate the record number of women who won their elections in 2018, and to ignite support for future elections, Ruth’s List Florida holds its annual statewide conference in Orlando Feb. 22 and 23. The organization is the only one in the state that backs progressive, Democratic women in their candidacies.

The ‘She’s the Change’ Leadership and Vision 2020 Conference aims to recognize those women who stood up and demanded a seat at the table in 2018, to hear from people dedicated to making political change, and to offer information and support to women interested in the political process.

“The goal of the conference is not just to bring women together, but to engage and encourage all women, whether prospective candidates or energized voters, as we move towards 2020,” said Pamela Goodman, President/CEO of Ruth’s List Florida. “2020 is a pivotal year, as it marks 100 years since the 19th Amendment guaranteed women a vote.”

Speakers at the Orlando conference include legendary Former Congresswoman Pat Schroeder, The Honorable Alex Sink, the Honorable Gwen Graham and Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy is the keynote speaker. In 2016 she achieved what many said was impossible when she beat an entrenched conservative incumbent. She now serves on the powerful Ways and Means Committee in Congress.

In 2018, women took back the U.S House of Representatives, and won elections across the state. The increase in women’s victories owes much to Ruth’s List Florida, founded in 2008. In the past decade the organization has raised more than $5 million for candidates, trained 1,800 women in how to run a successful campaign, and, most importantly, has helped achieve 118 victories.

Ruth’s List Florida invites those interested in electing progressive, Democratic women to join them at the conference to celebrate the successes of 2018, to meet with like-minded people, and to plan for upcoming elections. Attendees can access training sessions for all aspects of the political process, network, and attend inspiring workshops.
