TAMPA, FL – (September 6, 2018) – Ruth’s List Florida commends Tallahassee Mayor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum on naming Orlando businessman Chris King as his Lieutenant Governor.
“We congratulate Mayor Gillum for his pick of Chris King as his running mate today,” Pamela Goodman, President/CEO of Ruth’s List Florida, said.
Ruth’s List Florida, the only organization dedicated to electing progressive women candidates to state and local office in Florida, has endorsed 40 women on the November ballot.
“We look forward to supporting this Democratic ballot by helping elect Nikki Fried as our next Commissioner of Agriculture, along with our 40 state Senator, state Representatives and down ballot women candidates,” Goodman said.
A record number of Ruth’s List-endorsed women candidates won their primary races, making it clear that voters are ready for change in Tallahassee. “Floridians are ready for change and the Primary was proof that women candidates and women voters are leading the charge,” Goodman said.
Gillum and King will vie with Ron De Santis, a pro-Trump Republican congressman, and his running mate Jeanette Nunez, in the race to become Florida’s next governor. The election is Nov. 6.
“Ruth’s List is building the bench of the next generation of leaders in Florida. We helped elect a record number of progressive women up and down the ballot all across the state,” Goodman said. “Our efforts will make significant contributions in the fall, and a new day will dawn in Florida.”
During the past decade, Ruth’s List has invested $4 million in hundreds of women across the state – motivating them to run for office, shaping their campaigns, connecting them to resources and collaborating with them on ways to improve the lives of every Florida family. Ruth’s List has trained more than 1,400 women, and helped 81 women win office, 26 in 2016 alone.
