Ruth’s List Florida helps pro-choice, Democratic women win elections.
Ruth’s List Florida seeks a full-time state-wide Political Director to support the long term mission of Ruth’s List to increase the number of Democratic pro-choice women running for office and getting elected at all levels of Florida government by leading the organization’s political department. The position has the opportunity to play a role in changing the dynamics of Florida by working with women to build a pipeline of talent for now and the future.
Ruth’s List helps women run inspiring, local campaigns that WIN. We identify, recruit, train, mentor and elect Democratic pro-choice women to all levels of office in Florida. Since 2008, we have raised over $9,500,000, elected over 250 women to state and local office, and trained more than 2,600 women. But our work has only just begun.
We’re looking for smart, dedicated, and highly motivated individuals to help us grow bigger, move faster, and achieve more. Our Political Director ensures that we are achieving the core tenets of our mission through recruiting, endorsing, and training our candidates. With hundreds of Democratic pro-choice women running in competitive races all across Florida, there is a high level of demand for our support and a high bar for how we will meet that demand. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Support the mission of Ruth’s List to increase the number of Democratic pro-choice women running for and elected to office in Florida.
- Develop a statewide candidate recruitment plan in conjunction with advisors and key partner organizations to strategically recruit for targeted legislative and local races.
- Recruit and vet high-quality candidates in targeted legislative and local races, in partnership with key allies and partner organizations.
- Oversee the Ruth’s List candidate coaching program, including assessing the need for and providing or assigning support in the areas of: campaign launch, fundraising, messaging, policy, campaign team, and more.
- Work in partnership with the Communications Director, Development Director, and Training Director to provide targeted 1:1 support to priority candidates.
- Provide high level strategic guidance and coaching to targeted legislative and local candidates and staff, both 1:1 and in group training settings.
- Manage the candidate endorsement process, including intake and assessment of all candidates seeking the RLF endorsement.
- Represent Ruth’s List at tables, coalitions and meetings with partner organizations;
- Assist the President/CEO and other staff as needed on special projects.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 3-4 cycles of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of Florida’s political landscape and relationships with political insiders/leaders.
- Experience working on legislative and/or local campaigns
- Exceptional ability to build and maintain relationships, and collaborate with a variety of external partners and organizational leaders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven track record of follow-through and accountability.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion,
- A deep commitment to and understanding of Ruth’s List’s mission.
DETAILS
Travel, evening and weekend work are required for this position (up to 20% travel throughout the state of Florida). Ruth’s List is headquartered in the Tampa Bay area, but this position may be located anywhere in the state.
This position will report directly to the President/CEO. The annual pay rate for this position is $75,000 – $85,000, depending on location and experience.
