Tampa, FL. — Ruth’s List Florida, the state’s only organization dedicated to electing Democratic pro-choice women to state and local office in Florida, responded to Florida House Republicans filing of HB 5, a 15-week abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest.
“Republican leaders are wasting no time showing how out of step they are with the majority of Floridians, who support reproductive freedom,” said Lucy Sedgwick, President and CEO of Ruth’s List Florida. “This bill is a dangerous attack on abortion rights and the power to make our own medical decisions. The only way to protect abortion access in Florida for the long-term is to elect Democratic pro-choice women who will go to the mat to defend our rights. That’s what Ruth’s List was founded to do, and our charge has never been greater.”
